Winter 2008 Newsletter

This is the first of a new program for quarterly newsletters. They're to help you make informed decisions for your good hearing. Topics will span useful news on advances in the technology for hearing aids, break-throughs in the tools and techniques for diagnosing and treating hearing problems, up-to-date information on medical issues related to hearing, and significant business developments in Sound Advice.

This inaugural issue includes special information about:

  • our staff and new office network,
  • an exciting development in hearing aid technology,
  • improvements in our facilities, and
  • practices to serve you still better.

This issue will also include highlights on our unique business principles and commitment to you.

After you scan this issue please be sure to check the two special reminders at the end.

NOTE: Our business plans call for creating a web site. When that's up and running, the archive of past newsletter issues will be available there. Further, we'll offer to distribute the current issue by e-mail. To those of you who would prefer to receive an electronic version, please let us know your e-mail address.

NEW DEVELOPMENT IN HEARING AIDS not just keeping up, but keeping ahead

I've just attended an exciting seminar about pioneering, innovative technology that's available to you now. It utilizes nanotechnology for ultra-miniature circuitry plus advances in systems for artificial intelligence. With that combination, the goals are (a) to deliver all the new capabilities with even smaller aids, and (b) to have your instruments learn the features of your unique hear-ing environment so they can automatically set themselves to those conditions and 'keep them in mind.'

Yet there's even more in store - the capability to handle Bluetooth and Ipod reception. So when that makes sense for you, we'll be all ready to deliver our usual Sound Advice help. You know we'll guide you in selecting what's most appropriate for your communication needs; that's our abiding business philosophy.

Our work with - and for - you concentrates strictly on your unique individual needs, on what fits your pocketbook, and on what satisfies your personal views about size, style and capabilities. We'll always review our full spectrum of instruments with you so you can get precisely what's right. After a while we may recommend an aid upgrade to deal with significant changes in your hearing quality, but we NEVER pitch the latest bells-and-whistles just because they're there.

OUR NEW COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK We've installed a new telephone system that links all our offices and handles your call regardless of which number you dial. There were some challenges breaking it in, but all features are 'go' now. We want you to reach a real person and not a recording at our end of the line.

MODERNIZING OUR INFORMATION SYSTEMS You've probably heard about hospital frustrations with manual patient records. They're inefficient to generate, and it's really difficult to retrieve essential information accurately and quickly right when it's needed. So facilities are increasingly adopting computer-based networks for data entry, data access, and data sharing - and we are, too!

Thus our sessions with you will be even more efficient and reliable. For example, we'll be able to easily retrieve key data from your hearing tests, to track important changes and comments about your hearing over time, and to access the programming details for your latest instruments. And you'll get all those benefits regardless of how many appointments you've had with us, over how long, even including previous hearing instruments.

SOUND ADVICE - THE RIGHT SOLUTION FOR YOU Our abiding commitment, first and foremost, is to see that you achieve effective and enjoyable hearing and conversation. That goal spans your complete communications environment:

  1. at home including television and telephone, and in dynamic family interactions,
  2. in business with co-workers and clients,
  3. in social get-togethers from dining out to school events and reunions with friends and family of all ages,
  4. at public performances and presentations from sports events to concerts, and
  5. at various organization meetings, religious services, and in other day-to-day settings.

Our success follows from our dedication to that commitment. But while that success has been confirmed by our growing family of satisfied patients, we know we're truly 'on the line'. We operate through our own independent business corporation so we know we have to ensure your service and purchase satisfaction. Thus we're not like franchise businesses for personal services, outfits typically guided by the model of matching needs against a fixed selection of available products - the 'cart before the horse.'

We deliver on our commitment to you by every feature of our operations:

  • Excellent staff dedicated to diagnosing and solving your hearing needs;
  • Service in relaxed, no-pressure appointments We take the time for thorough and reliable diagnosis and for clear and understandable explanations of every question that may arise. We focus on each of you as a distinct, special individual. We recommend aids only when that's the correct solution;
  • Working with new facilities and equipment;
  • Tapping our broad up-to-date product selections from multiple vendors We work with several carefully selected, well respected manufacturers for the best choices in technology, customer service and end cost for you, and we adjust the vendor set on occasion to keep up with technological progress;
  • Ensuring our recommendation fits you Our professional staff balances your communication need, your style preferences, and your cost considerations. We can offer affordable payment programs to help ensure your solution is practical for you. And if you have any suggestions or concerns about our performance - from service to cost - we want to know. Then we can address them with you, and we can adopt any new practices that may be required.

SPECIAL REMINDERS With the New Year upon us, be sure you'll fully enjoy all the interactions and fun with family and friends. Take advantage of our hearing services to explore getting new aids or to ensure current ones are working properly for you.

And please call one of our convenient locations for an appointment to discuss hearing solutions for you.

That's Sound Advice Hearing Centers - your key to effective communications.

All of us at Sound Advice look forward to serving you and helping you enjoy better hearing.

Sincerely, Cheryl Kenney, President
